Having a Baby Made Me Richer

Having a Baby Made Me Richer An entertaining thing occurred after I had my first childâ€"my pay multiplied. I had gotten some much needed rest labor for several months after Evan was conceived, and needed severely to stage once again into a work schedule. Yet, I likewise realized that my new life as a mother had changed things. Whatever I sought after expected to offer more adaptability and autonomy than my past encounters. That changed my needs. I needed to take on just the activities that intrigued me, offered a better yield on my time contributed, and profited our family. And keeping in mind that I can't demonstrate it experimentally, I solidly accept this better approach for considering workâ€"basically, the new standpoint I got from turning into a motherâ€"has made me more extravagant. For my situation, the appropriate response was to dispatch a digital recordingâ€"which, it turns out, has conveyed a solid benefit. Yet, that is only one case of how my choices go nowadays. Concentrate on Efficiency We presently have two youngsters. Our child is three and a half, while our little girl, Colette, was brought into the world a year ago and is moving toward her first birthday celebration. As a result of them, I search for approaches to make my profession more straightforward and additionally obliging to our family. I've gotten progressively gainful by redistributing things that occupied me beforeâ€"I employed a marketing specialist to deal with online life and blog entries, and low maintenance individual partner to help oversee email and timetable gatherings. Submitting general direction to my willful baby, I have additionally shown signs of improvement at saying NO. I've figured out how to mention to customers what I need. I don't travel much for work, either, except if I shouldâ€"and just when the compensation is correct. I as of late acknowledged a talking commitment in Chicago, for example, that requires one short-term remainâ€"brought down from twoâ€"since I understood it would assist with covering a while of preschool educational cost. I have additionally acknowledged I can't do everything without anyone else. I as of late made an online cash course in organization with Investopedia. It's something I generally needed to do yet couldn't pull off performance. Along these lines, I get the opportunity to do what I specialize in (educate), while they handle all the things that I'm either too occupied to even think about executing or not talented enough to progress nicelyâ€"a rundown that incorporates creation, advertising and deals. To be completely forthright: I'm lucky. Over half of working moms despite everything accept that having kids makes it harder to progress at work, as indicated by Pew Research. (Just 16% of fathers accepted that to be the situation for them, unexpectedly.) The requests of child rearing, as I would like to think, far outpace the requests of work. The psychological and physical depletion is genuine. However I additionally love my profession. I work for myself and have more adaptability than if I were as yet a worker. I have the advantage of at-home consideration with an adoring, mindful and experienced full-time caretaker. Furthermore, I have my better half, who is the most solid individual in our lives. He works all dayâ€"however whether I should be away for a couple of days or Evan has a physical checkup right when I'm booked for a video shoot, Tim is primed and ready. Timing may likewise have an impact. I began having kids in my mid to late-30s and spent a whole decade and a half preceding the introduction of my youngsters working nonstop, gathering profession speed, saying yes to most chances and planting the significant seeds that are currently growing. Payscale as of late did the math and found that for ladies, compensations top at age 39. (I simply turned 38.) So perhaps procuring more was inescapable? Estimating the 'Child Effect' All things being equal, there's parts to be said about the infant impact on a parent's gaining potential. Initially, there's the intuition to give and secure that kicks in more than ever, says child rearing master and writer Amy McCready. We don't mull over applying for the advancement, requesting a raise or, beginning/developing that business. Belinda Rosenblum, organizer of OwnYourMoney.com, began her family four years prior. It enlivened me to absolutely redo my business to oblige the requirements of my developing family, she said. Her training went from one-on-one instructing to online courses. The move permitted her to scale her business quicker. Deals have since grown more than multiple times. You additionally get increasingly productive, as time turns into your most valuable item. You have less an ideal opportunity to dedicate to work, with the goal that implies each subsequent you spend must be gainful, proficient and centered. You don't have some other decision. My companion Kailei Carr, an administration mentor for official ladies, simply encountered her first entire year of work in the wake of bringing forth her little girl. She went from working five days out of every week to three. In that time, she figured out how to twofold her incomes by raising her charges and handling a major customer. I am progressively engaged, can all the more rapidly organize undertakings, and have less an ideal opportunity to contemplate over choices, she lets me know. At long last, says McCready, when we become guardians, we need to turn out to be better forms of ourselves for our childrenâ€"regardless of whether that is getting more advantageous, giving more to noble cause, or excelling at work. We need our children to admire us, to consider us to be a superhuman. My digital recording may not be gaining me hero status in our home (yet), yet Evan likes to participate on a portion of the meetings. He made an ongoing astonishment appearance on scene 676 with business person Isa Herrera. (Next time, I'll recollect lock the entryway to my office.) He danced in and made proper acquaintance with my remote visitor, whose voice he could hear through the speakers. He at that point continued to jot her an image utilizing my pen. It's for Isa, he reported, as he fled off to something additionally energizing … I'm speculating including one of his valued Rescue Bots. You must be there, I presume. However, it's minutes like these that make this working mother wonder what life resembled before kids. And afterward I feel more extravagant than at any other time. You've presumably heard the significance of your appearance when attempting to find a new line of work since secondary school, if not previously. A large portion of you would be totally stunned at what number of individuals get ignored in interviews since they didn't look like it. I'm not supporting wearing formal attire to each meeting, yet there are unquestionably times where that is the fitting approach. See what individuals are wearing who work in the position that you're going for, and coordinate them, at any rate. I'd even suggest dressing marginally more honed - looking great never harms, particularly when there are about six individuals similarly or all the more profoundly qualified as you for this equivalent position. 2. Continue applying Try not to go after only one position, put your name out there and apply for whatever appears to be really near being fit for your abilities. In case you're still in school, join whatever number associations and temporary positions as could be allowed - simply be as dynamic as conceivable in light of the fact that your degree alone won't get you very to the extent you may think. In case you're finished with school, consider chipping in or engaging in your locale - any movement that you can put on your resume to expand your worth makes a difference. Amputation Is Sometimes Necessary by Career Development Partners | Oct 9, 2015 | 1 comment I was in church service this previous Sunday when someone requested prayer for the workers of an Oklahoman company that lately laid off several hundred individuals. His son was one of many so-called survivors however lots of his son’s friends and associates were severed. He spoke of the way it had been traumatic for those leaving but in addition the staff left behind felt like they were guilty for not getting the ax like their shut pals and colleagues. His words created an image in my mind… amputated limbs. Sometimes it is necessary to amputate a limb to be able to save the body. Gruesome image I know but it can be when not accomplished right. It is the ugly facet of business. A firm that has been hit with a decline in enterprise could also be pressured to have a labor reduction to save the corporate. It additionally created another image for me. An image of two ‘surgeons’ the first bei ng an informed and skillful surgeon. A surgeon that understands that a troublesome choice should be made to save lots of the body. He has the data and expertise to complete the task with less pain and trauma. He is aware of the most effective methods to assist the body heal and flourish again. The surgeon understands that the physique will want rehabilitation to revive itself and be stronger. Then there may be the second ‘surgeon’. He might be what most of us think of once we hear the word amputation. The Civil War doctor who offers a fallen soldier a leather-based strap to chunk on whereas he uses the hacksaw to chop the limb off. He leaves the body heavily scarred and traumatized. Did he save many lives? Yes. But on the same time this doctor leaves a psychological image that none will ever forget. When a CEO is forced to have a labor discount to avoid wasting the company. In Denial About Your Salary

In Denial About Your Salary This week, the White House uncovered a newwebsite where individuals can investigate educational cost expenses and post-graduation business rates at universities across America. One objective of this activity is to assist understudies with settling on monetarily educated choices about taking credits to pay for their instruction. One astounding - and discouraging - finding was that female alumni made not exactly male alumni from similar schools. In particular, 10 years in the wake of graduating, graduated class made not exactly their male partners at basically every college in the administration's database. In any case, the most noticeably awful compensation inconsistencies were at the nation's most lofty colleges. The New York Times announced that the greatest compensation hole was $58,1000 for MIT female alumni. In any case, the image is similarly as depressing at the Ivy League colleges, whereFortune detailed the accompanying compensation holes: - Harvard University - $54,600 - UPenn - $49,000 - Princeton - $47,700 - Yale - $34,600 - Columbia - $33,700 - Dartmouth - $29,500 - Cornell - $26,700 - Brown - $18,800 The million dollar question is, obviously, why? Specialists propose that equivalent compensation is an intricate point to analyze since it includes individuals settling on decisions that may represent an enormous part of this distinction. Positively deciding to work in a particular industry or in a specific activity will be the biggest factor in deciding your compensation. Also, obviously, individual decisions will have an effect, for example on the off chance that you remove time from the workforce to think about your family. All things considered, numerous specialists state the examination shows that there stays a difficult compensation hole that exists much after every one of these elements are accounted and controlled for. There are sure presumptions managers settle on about the decisions ladies may make or needs they have (regardless of whether they make them or really have them) that assume a job in making predispositions that at last decrease working women's' pay rates and open doors for headway. Numerous ladies we address feel sure that they are paid similarly for equivalent work. We have no specific motivation to figure they aren't right, and absolutely no one jumps at the chance to think they are being dealt with unreasonably. Then again, positive thinking shouldn't be inconsistent with a sound doubt about being paid your reasonable worth. That is the place compensation straightforwardness and information discharges like these come in. They're a sharp update that we can't generally underestimate cash matters. Fairygodboss is focused on improving the working environment and lives of ladies. Go along with us by investigating your boss!

How Many Bullet Points Per Job On Resume?

How Many Bullet Points Per Job On Resume? Most job applicants look at resumes, but few give thought to how many bullet points they should have on a resume. The number of bullet points in a resume is typically not given much thought, but the number of bullet points is important when it comes to resume writing. Many employers want to see several bullet points on a resume. That's because they don't have time to read through every entry, even if the entry is one that was very important to the candidate. The goal is to get the best person for the job in the shortest amount of time. A professional resume is an essential tool in this process.A resume can include only one or two bullet points, or a resume can have three or four bullet points. In addition to providing information about the person who is applying for the job, a resume can include vital information that will help the employer determine if a person is right for the job. Some of these bullet points are self-explanatory. For example , a bullet point that says 'Senior Accountant' would indicate that the applicant has been in management positions in their career. However, a bullet point such as 'Previous high salaries range:' provides more information than just the salary. How the bullet points are listed is up to the resume writer. A professional will take care of this in the area of grammar and style. As you are completing your resume, check each one to see how many bullet points the employer is looking for. This number is called the resume summary. If you have fewer bullet points, the employer will know that they do not need to read through your entire resume, leaving them with no reason to contact you. When starting a resume, you need to start with the most important things first and add additional bullet points as you become more familiar with the job duties. You should also read the cover letter carefully before sending it to the hiring manager. Check to see if you are submitting your resume first, followed by the cover letter. Then check your resume before mailing it.Keep in mind that the number of bullet points on a resume does not necessarily mean a candidate is right for the job. Employers often use very specific criteria in hiring. Therefore, the number of bullet points does not tell the whole story. Instead, you must make sure the information provided by the resume is grammatically correct and provides the employer with sufficient information to make a good decision about whether to hire the applicant. The number of bullet points per job is relative. The information you provide on a resume can change depending on the specific requirements of the position. Therefore, you must be consistent with your resume throughout the process.

Market Research In The Recruitment Industry - Workology

Market Research In The Recruitment Industry - Workology Market Research In The Recruitment Industry Recruitment is a sector that can benefit from investing in survey sampling to help build insight into search habits, industry-specific preferences and employee behaviours.  To date, the majority of research conducted around recruitment is done by and about employers, but what about the voice of the candidate and understanding their drive and desires? Market Research In The Recruitment Industry Whether it’s human resources managers who are looking to retain valuable staff and source new talent, or recruitment consultants who require insights into attracting new candidates, understanding seasonal trends and behaviours can provide valuable insight into the mindset of candidates. Understanding Behaviours Developing an awareness of how different people seek employment helps to support targeting within advertising campaigns. Recent studies have shown that men are more likely to gain employment through networking, whilst female candidates are more successful in securing positions through published job opportunities. From coordinating networking events to advertising jobs on the most appropriate outlets, using online panels or surveys to identify how people like to search for opportunities can be key to reaching the right candidates. As the job market continues to improve, companies with a firm grasp of what matters to employees will be in the best position to attract the strongest candidates. Exploring how people respond to changes in employment legislation can support the development of recruitment strategies. For instance, last years extension of flexible working rights has had a significant effect on what motivates candidates. Research shows that over 77% of employees surveyed said that flexible working options are one of their top 5 benefits, with a third overall putting it in their top 2. Understanding this shift has allowed organisations to engage and retain great staff â€" 51% of employers said they already offered flexible working and 30% said they are planning to build flexible working options into retention and motivation programmes. Gaining Reliable Insights There are plenty of statistics and reports on recruitment behaviours, but taking the time to gather relevant, targeted data can offer a far deeper understanding of what candidates (or potential employees) are looking for. Using market research tools to improve insight into the nuances of a specific industry will equip human resources managers and recruitment consultants with a far more accurate understanding of their target audience. Investing in independent studies negates the inaccurate results that can be generated by internal surveys. Despite the promise of anonymity, candidates and existing employees are likely to have reservations about documenting anything that could compromise their position. Additionally, there is a risk that subjects could be tempted to embellish answers to support a personal agenda. Staff Retention A recent study by LinkedIn and Altimeter showed that an engaged employee is 20% more likely to stay at a company. Keeping employees invested in where they work is easier to achieve if you have an insight into their values and motivations. For example, organisations that demonstrate a commitment to corporate sustainability often cite social policy as a reason why their employees are happy in their position. Developing strategies to keep your team happy helps to sustain an engaged and productive workforce. According to a number of estimates, losing and replacing a valuable worker can cost companies as much as 200% of an employee’s annual salary. Market research  helps to train your instincts so that youre hiring efficiently, smartly, and effectively and providing human resources services to existing employees from a place of real understanding.

How Your Boss Could Show Her Appreciation at Work - The Muse

How Your Boss Could Show Her Appreciation at Work - The Muse How Your Boss Could Show Her Appreciation at Work Your chief An) is completely charming B) is able C) is savvy D) is thankful In case you're ready to scratch off A through C, you're doing quite well. You for the most part like the work you're doing, the hours are tolerable, in addition to you have reasonable compensation, great advantages, and a crucial regard. The main thing missing (beside peppermint tea in the kitchen) is letter D above. Your supervisor isn't truly adept at giving you that you're esteemed. Then again, you can't remember a period he lauded you for a vocation very much done. No bad things to say about your work or criticism that proposes you have a ton to enhance, yet no recognition either. On the off chance that solitary he knew how far a couple of expressions of thankfulness at work would go. On the off chance that he could simply say one of the accompanying, you'd be inspired to kick butt for in any event the following year. 1. You're Doing Great In some capacity, obviously, you realize you're accomplishing acceptable work. The input you got a year ago at your yearly survey was entirely awesome, really. You're on target for an advancement, and you even got the raise you were plotting for. All signs point to you getting good grades and a major approval from your chief (and your supervisor's chief!). The main thing missing is the applause. Beside the standard audit, you can't remember a period your chief communicated fulfillment in the activity you're doing. When has he at any point stated, Hello, Darren, extremely decent work on the deck you turned in yesterday. I'm intrigued. Um, never? Also, look, in the event that it were a decision between verbal commendation and a cushioned check, you'd take the last mentioned, however for what reason wouldn't it be able to be both? For what reason can't your manager look at you without flinching and let you realize that you're an esteemed resource and that he's appropriately satisfied with your exhibition more regularly than once every year during the than the required representative evaluation? 2. Much obliged to You No, it's not just as you might suspect you have the right to be said thanks to for carrying out your responsibility. You are getting paid, all things considered, and some may contend that is a type of appreciation all by itself, however with regards to those little and not really easily overlooked details your chief requests that you do? Would she be able to, probably a portion of the time, simply state thank you when you turn something in, when you fulfill a time constraint, when you go well beyond, or when she's satisfied with your endeavors? It's hard not to feel like you're underestimated or that your job exists basically to finish your manager's requests when those two valuable words are limitlessly missing from her discourse. Fine on the off chance that she wouldn't like to state it each time you mark something off old fashioned daily agenda, yet how invigorating would it be to once in a while have your administrator's asks be fixed with a Bless your heart. 3. Glad to Have You on the Team At the point when you stop to consider how the group at any point made due without you, you're not being presumptuous, you're being reasonable. There are others out there who could carry out your responsibility, sure, yet you accept the work you're accomplishing for the division is heavenly, and the way of life fit couldn't be better. So for what reason can't your director disclose to you he's glad to have you in his group? What's so difficult about telling you that you're a benefit and that you were an extraordinary recruit? All things considered, it thinks about well him that you're turning out to be so well. All day every day, you make him look great by how well you're performing. It'd be ideal to hear him state what you're almost certain he as of now accepts. Regardless of how great you have it, it's inescapable not to conjure up how things could be shockingly better. In the event that you and your manager have a strong relationship, you ought to be appreciative for it as it's not the situation for many individuals. Furthermore, dislike you completely need the commendation to prop up you've been exceeding expectations well this time without it-yet you might want it. All things considered, it's ideal to feel increased in value. In case you start to feel underestimated, consider what you can do to get your manager to state a couple of these basic yet significant things. Express gratitude toward him when it bodes well to; possibly he'll in the long run follow your lead. Ask him inside and out how he believes you're doing-he may simply be not used to conveying input, maybe he never had directors who adulated him. Ask with respect to how you can improve and communicate enthusiasm for comprehending what it is he believes you're progressing nicely. Make this a progressing discussion, and give him that you're available to both helpful analysis and endorsement. Simply recall, you can't control what comes out of your director's mouth-however you can control what comes out of yours. So when in doubt, construct the way of life of appreciation you need in the group by straightforwardly acknowledging others. It probably won't come off on him, however it'll no uncertainty come off on others. Photograph of individuals taking a gander at clingy notes civility of Westend61/Getty Images.

How to Act When Headhunters Call You

How to Act When Headhunters Call You For many individuals the prospect of being approached by a headhunter could be a terrifying one. For a start, the experience is an unannounced one â€" more often than not the headhunter will call a potential candidate out of the blue. Due to this, the timing may not be perfect â€" oftentimes the headhunter will contact the individual to discuss new employment opportunities whilst they are physically in their current place of work. Because this prospect is so daunting individuals should arm themselves with the correct knowledge on how to deal with this situation just in case a headhunter does indeed one day reach out to them. Why has the headhunter phoned? For individuals who have no experience  in dealing with headhunters it would be easy to assume that the headhunter has phoned solely for the purpose of making a solid job offer. This, however, is not the case. Rather than making any such concrete proposals the headhunter is instead attempting to “feel out” a number of potential candidates at the same time. This means that the headhunter will contact several individuals who they believe may have the potential to fill the role he has on offer. From here the headhunter will gauge, via a telephone chat more often than not, whether the individual would be hypothetically interested in the position were it to be offered to them. As not everyone would be interested, or are more than content in their current place of work, a headhunter will narrow down his long list to a shorter one comprising solely of candidates that would potentially accept the job if it were to be offered to them. Interacting with the recruiter Even though, as mentioned before, when a headhunter calls he is not offering a job or even conducting a formal interview it is probably a good idea to act as if they are. As with a job interview this means maintain a level of formality as well as being as polite and courteous as possible. In doing this the individual is able to separate himself from other potential candidates, all of whom are more than likely from a similar background with similar levels of experience, and it is small touches such as these that will ultimately give an individual the edge over their competition. To screen your headhunter, check out Interview Questions for Recruiters. The first call Headhunters seldom announce when they are due to make their first call â€" it usually arrives from out of the blue and, because of this, can induce panic in those not expecting it who are ill prepared to deal with the call. Panic can be induced by individuals overly concerning themselves with where the headhunter got their details from. Usually the answer is something innocuous along the lines of the contact details being forwarded by a work colleague or acquaintance. Failling this it is entirely possible that the headhunter could have found the details online in a directory or an o social media site such as LinkedIn. Once this has been ascertained it is easier for the individual to relax and discuss the matter at hand. More on headhunter questions at Why Do Recruitment Consultants Ask Such Crazy Questions? Talk later if need be Another aspect of the headhunting process that can make individuals uncomfortable relates to the location they are in when receiving the recruiters call. Usually this is in their current work environment and the idea of discussing future work opportunities whilst in their area of employ can be difficult for some. The best ways to sidestep these issues is to simply ask the headhunter if it would be possible to swap contact details and speak at a more convenient time and location. On top of alleviating any awkwardness the conversation may have suffered from it also gives the individual the opportunity to go home and research the headhunters’ company and also the opportunity which is to be discussed. Rather than be uncomfortable, the individual can now speak from a convenient place and can also prepare examples from their CV which may impress the headhunter. Headhunters still not ringing? A Beginners Guide to Funding Your Business Idea

A Beginner’s Guide to Funding Your Business Idea Becoming a successful entrepreneur is no small task. There are lots of things to learn, both about running a business, but also about yourself. However, don’t let the challenge discourage you. Starting a business and sticking with it will likely be one of the most rewarding things you ever do. But before you can make your business a success, you need to get it off the ground. For most people, at least those of us who don’t have large inheritances or wealthy relatives, this means finding people, usually complete strangers, to invest in your business. If this terrifies you, don’t worry, you’re not alone. But take solace in the fact that it’s not as scary as it seems. There are more ways to get funding then going on Shark Tank, although this could work if you use the right strategy for securing a deal. But there is still a learning curve, but we’re going to do the best we can to try and make it a bit smaller. Here are some things you should keep in mind before going after funding: Decide Exactly How Much You Need The first thing you should do when trying to secure funding is come up with a specific amount of money you need. This is good because it will help show to investors that you’ve thought out your request. But perhaps more importantly, it shows you’ve thought about how you’re going to use the money, which will be of utmost importance to any investor. Think about it. Every business owner knows they need money to get started, but if you go in their asking for cash to pay employees and keep things afloat, no one is going to be jumping to fund you. However, if you enter a room full of investors and say you need, as an example, $200,000 to ramp up production and market to a new audience that has shown interest in your product, then you’re far more likely to get people’s attention. Asking for funding is no small thing, so make sure you know exactly how much you need and what you’re going to do with the money once you get it. Emphasize Value, Not Features A successful business is one that sells something that people genuinely need, or at least feel they need; the concept of a “need” is rather relative. As a result, when you start trying for funding, make sure you’ve spent a good deal of time figuring out what need you help people satisfy. Just because your product looks good or is fun doesn’t mean it adds value. These are features, and they do not make you unique. Think critically about how you improve people’s lives, and make sure to emphasize this wherever you deal with a potential investor. Determine and Explain the Return Investors are looking for opportunities to make money. It’s as simple as that. As a result, you need to explicitly state how people are going to earn that money. Are you asking for a loan, which means people will get their money back through interest? Or are you offering a stake in your company? This second option tends to be a popular choice, as it gives investors a bit more security. It also gives them a say in what happens at the company, something that adds another level of security. It’s important to remember this whenever you’re pitching, no matter if you’re asking for a low-interest loan from your parents or offering shares to a group of venture capitalists. Make sure people know how they will make money, and if you can, try to estimate how much. This plays to humans’ tendency to think about themselves, and it will increase your chances of getting money for your project. Have and Use Proof Don’t be surprised if people ask you to back up any claims you’re making with some tangible proof. Most people with an idea for a business believe it’s going to work, but not everyone is right, so can you blame someone for asking for proof? Before you go out and start looking for people to help you get your project started, make sure to spend some time collecting evidence that your idea works. This could be something as simple as a thorough thought exercise that’s backed up by interviews conducted with potential customers. Or, it could be results from a pop-up store. But no matter what it is, the more proof you can offer that your business has a chance to work, the more likely you are to get funding. If you don’t have this proof, start collecting it. Then start contacting investors. Not only will it give you the opportunity to prove to yourself that your idea is good, but it will also significantly improve your chances of securing funding from investors. Assemble a Team Anyone with experience starting and running a business knows that you can’t possible do it on your own. As a result, most investors will want to see the team you have around you to help you run the business. For this, make sure to focus on what’s best for the business. It’s normal to look first to those in your circle, but friends don’t always make good business partners, especially if they don’t have the right qualifications. In fact, it’s often better if you find someone who is outside of this circle. It’s easier to put emotions aside when there isn’t a personal relationship, and this is absolutely necessary when dealing with a business. If you’re moving towards trying to get funding, make sure you’ve put together a team of people that will help the business, as this will dramatically improve your chances at securing funding. Persevere and Persist These tips will help make the pitching process much less terrifying. But we’d be lying if we said this is a guarantee. It’s a dog eat dog world out there, and you will face some rejection, especially as you first start out. However, don’t let this get you down. Believe in your idea and in yourself, and before you know it you will find someone to help you turn your idea into something real.

If your joints are injured in an accident, you may have to seek surgery or other treatment to get long term relief from joint pain and other associated symptoms. It can affect more than one joint at a time and you need to get proper treatment at the right time to avoid further complications as the crystals of uric acid can even get deposited in the kidney. Septic arthritis This condition is the result of infection in the joint region and it can happen even when the joints are not directly affected by the germs. In most cases, the infection causing germs get into the bloodstream and they reach the joints. It can cause severe pain and you should get medical treatment at the earliest to avoid complications in the long run. The infection is usually surgically removed and some medication is prescribed to control further infection in the body that can trigger joint pain. Weak immune system When the immune system is very weak, the body becomes susceptible to various infections and this can lead to arthritis and other associated problems in future. People suffering from kidney related ailments or diabetes often suffer from weak immune system as the drugs used to treat such conditions suppress the immunity of the body. In this situation, you should eat healthy food and stay away from alcohol and other harmful drugs that can cause inflammation in the body.

Personal Branding with a Punch and Some Cookies - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Branding with a Punch and Some Cookies - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Typically, it’s not the best, but the one who can take the stress and makes it to the top of any company, industry or career path is the person who can take a punch, get past the burn and play injured that makes it to number one. It’s the person who cleans and dresses their own wounds and knows how to unwind rather than blow up that other people trust and admire. Soothing self-talk is way under recognized as a career and reputation management tool. While our personal brands must be distinct from the masses around us, those of us who succeed have one thing in common: we are low maintenance for other people. We appear to be self-cleaning ovens, effortlessly churning out fresh, hot and delicious chocolate chip cookies without leaving a mess. Even when we don’t have the perfect temperature, ingredients and other conditions that we wish made our missions easier â€" we perform reliably. Do you know your opponent? If you embrace the facts: business is not nice, people don’t play fair and cheaters often prosper, and if you’re okay with that â€" you can save your energy for the real fight.   Guess who is your opponent? The real fight is always with yourself, not with your circumstances or other people. The fight is to maintain your calm, measure your words and keep things in perspective. My business partner says the toughest part of deal-making is: “getting over yourself.” Getting over the loss of “must-haves,” that turn out to be “not right now haves.” Getting over what feels like career ending injuries â€" like getting fired or being passed over for the ideal job. Getting over the client who breaches a contract, the boss who goes back on his word, and getting on with the real job you wind up with â€" which rarely looks like the job description you signed on for. Stretch but dont break Dream big but don’t torment yourself. Goals are meant to stretch you, but not so far as to break you. We all have an internal thermostat regulating our sense of well-being, with a surprisingly small range for novelty and change in any one space of time. So, do yourself a favor, and set the next upward threshold at 2 degrees not 20 degrees higher as you make the climb in your mind, which is where success starts. As you rise in reality, acclimate to the stress, the perks, the people, and the altitude. The air gets thinner and it can be really hard to take that centering, cleansing breath â€" as you go higher and higher in your business or career. Like any great ascent, you have to see it and take it, in stages. People who manage their careers, reputations and the growth of their brands are not just self-confident.They have soothing self-talk. Most of the time, were thinking about the next step, not the entire mind-boggling journey. If you are pushed or pulled over your limit, even by your own imagination, you may creatively find ways to self-sabotage. As soon as you’ve laid down the great get, such as: “I will be the leading social media strategist or blogger or pundit or accountant or tech genius in my field,” drop in mini-goals.   You eat an elephant and an apple the same way, one bite at a time. So survey the buffets that are spread out this season, and resolve to enjoy just enough holiday punch and cookies to satisfy you in one sitting. Your eyes may not be the best judge of what your stomach can hold down. What other reasonable resolutions are you going to make at this time of year? Author: Nance Rosen is the author of Speak Up! 3 reasons to rethink your office landscape

3 reasons to rethink your office landscape By now you’ve probably heard of workplaces implementing unorthodox practices to improve employee satisfaction, such as nap rooms and chair massages. These workplace perks are meant to improve employee health and positively impact overall workplace culture. In conjunction with workplace perks like theses, business owners should be aware of how the physical office landscape itself affects staff and work processes. A new generation of professionals and innovations in technology are impacting when, where, and how employees work and collaborate and, with this, a new emphasis is being placed on environments that promote health and productivity. Despite significant changes to the office landscape, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the traditional desk workspace. Perhaps surprisingly, traditional sit-only desks can have a significant impact on an organization. A new report from Ergotron, the 2016 JustStand ® Index: Getting Productivity Up Moving, explores full-time employees’ attitudes towards sitting all day and how they believe it impacts their productivity and overall well-being. According to Betsey Banker, wellness manager at Ergotron, there are several ways sitting all day adversely affects businesses overall. Betsey highlights three reasons to rethink the office landscape to improve employee health and productivity, and corporate culture. 1. It’s what’s inside that counts There are many aspects of employee wellness that cannot be easily influenced at the office, such as how much sleep employees are getting or what they’re eating for breakfast and dinner each day. While employers should still encourage and promote healthy behaviors in a variety of ways, focusing on the physical office is a great place to start. It’s an area where employees spend over eight hours a day, five days a week, and the employer has complete control. Employers can help break up sedentary time by adding opportunities for employees to engage in low-level activities â€" whether through the use of sit-stand workstations, walking meetings, or standing collaborative areas. Mounting evidence confirms that exercise will not undo the damage done by prolonged sitting, so employers should seek ways to help employees get on their feet in a more proactive way. By updating the office environment and providing a more active workplace, employers can more directly influence healthy behaviors. 2. Keep employees comfortable and productive While the impact on the body of prolonged sitting has been well-documented in recent years, employers have been slow to connect the dots between extended sitting and the physical health of employees â€" or its corresponding effect on the overall health of an organization. Employees who sit for too long become restless and are forced to take breaks to manage discomfort or distraction. A staggering 58 percent of employees admitted to taking two to five breaks a day to relieve the discomfort of sitting. Results of the index indicate restlessness from prolonged sitting is more disruptive to organizational productivity than visiting social media sites. While many employers are worried about cyberloafingâ€" personal use of a company’s internet access while at work â€" and its impact on productivity, it’s clear that employees are spending more time moving around (61 percent) than cyberloafing (a combined 39 percent). What’s more, outside research suggests that, when interrupted, it can take a worker more than 20 minutes to get back on task. While frequent movement should be encouraged, it should come from knowing the benefits of standing and striving for better health and wellness. It is critical for businesses to help employees have a voice in creating a work environment that fully supports their bodies and their ability to do their best work. One size does not fit all in terms of wellness opportunities, but the goal is always the sameâ€"keep employees comfortable and productive . Addressing the discomfort at the source is important to finding a solution that benefits the employee and the overall health of the organization. 3. Create a more positive work environment Office culture is arguably becoming one of the major differentiators for recruitment and retention. Despite many organizations moving away from traditional cubicles to adopting a more open office floor plan, traditional desks are still in use and it’s leading to dissatisfaction. A majority (68 percent) of people must sit all day for their job and an overwhelming (61 percent) dislike or even hate sitting all day. The discomfort caused from sitting too long is not only a distraction, but a silent attack on company culture, as it may impact employee stress levels, their ability to manage conflict, and their general mood and attitude. Happy employees are vital to any business’s success, and as there is a growing body of research around employee engagement and the link between employee satisfaction and profitability. Using sit-stand workstations to encourage movement can improve culture and health, helping companies retain and attract top talent â€" all while enhancing productivity. The increased focus on employee wellness and satisfaction has pushed employers to invest in a variety of new perks and benefits to attract and retain employees. However, many companies have not fully examined the benefits of simply redesigning the office landscape to support a wider variety of work styles and to help incorporate more movement into the work day. Small office landscape adjustments can have a big impact on employee and company vitality. Finding the silver lining in job search - Altruistic Tuesdays! -

Finding the silver lining in job search - Altruistic Tuesdays! - If you look hard enough, you can find a silver lining in this economy for job seekers. Many people have been trudging along in careers that didnt suit them, but leaving seemed impossible and risky. Taking advantage of a layoff and turning a difficult situation into an opportunity is not always easy, and it may not be the first thing that comes to mind when making plans for the future. Lets face it, if you have always done a certain type of work, it is easy to think that your next thing needs to be that same thing. If your field does not seem to have much of a future (or even a present!), making a change is obvious and necessary, but I hope my new series of posts will remind ALL job seekers that this may be a good time to take a different path! I recently reviewed Alexandra Levits new book, New Job, New You A Guide to Reinventing Yourself in a Bright New Career, where she highlights stories of people who have made career changes for a variety of reasons, including: Family requirements Need for independence Desire to pursue additional learning Financial aspirations Pursuit of a passion Personal or health setbacks Honing a talent or skill There is no doubt that layoffs can lead to a second career. (Take a look at this piece from NBC Nightly News that highlights people who made big jumps.) It is no surprise that Marci Alboher commented in this story. An authority on career changers, Marci is a senior fellow at Civic Ventures, the author of One Person/Multiple Careers: A New Model for Work/Life Success and creator of the popular Shifting Careers blog and column for The New York Times. Ive had a chance to talk to Marci about her work for Civic Ventures and the resources they offer via Encore.org. (Learn more about Civic Ventures and Encore.org HERE.) My discussions with Marci and reading Alexandras book inspired me to create a new, ongoing feature here on my blog. Im going to highlight stories of people who have made big career changes. To start off, I will share information and resources for and from those who have shifted to not-for-profit careers. I will call this feature Altruistic Tuesdays and highlight resources, many from the Encore.org site, aimed at smoothing the transition. If you have a story to share, please contact me! In the meantime, think about how you can use your skills in a different settingWhat have you always wanted to do, but never thought it was possible? You can translate your skills (maybe along with some new training) into a whole new career. photo by pranav singh
