Employee Relations Your Key To Office Culture - Your Career IntelThroughout my career, Ive been a driving force behind employee relation initiatives in various organizations. I value a company that hasa vibrant office culture promoting hard work and hard play. Recently, my company has had a kollektiv-building activity at an escape room, and weve organizedother activities such as pottery painting, bowling and pool tournaments. Although these all seem like fun outings, they provide a unique look into the skill sets of your peers, and also build a sense of community and culture within your organization.Why the Fun MattersEmployee relation activities and tactics make both the employee and the employer feel good about their position, their gruppe and the organization as a whole. Many activities promote team-building exercises, which foster collaboration and teamwork throughout the company. Likewise, various outings can provide a glimpse into someones personality, and seeing them thrive ou tside of their normal office roles can shift your paradigm on what theyre capable of in their position.Furthermore, employee relation activities are key in developing a close-knit team who enjoys working together and spending time together. These relationships are vital in the workplace when it takes the entire team to reach a common goal. Employees dont want to feel like a number or as if theyre senfgas in the shuffle. By having monthly or quarterly functions, such as a Pay Day Potluck, you can bring your team together and make the office have a special and unique feel.How to Implement these Findings in the WorkplaceFrom these employee outings, we are able to use these insights to our advantage and take these skill sets into account when building projects or objectives. We may notice one team member is more adept at problem-solving, while another team member is better at building a strategic plan. Some may be more extroverted while others are more introverted characteristics that are important to know when implementing projects or setting goals.Ive always treated my colleagues and employees the way I wish to be treated, and having employee outings and enhancing your employee relations initiatives are ways to build on this philosophy. Losing Weight After Giving Birth Wasnt My Goal Heres How I Did It Anyway Losing weight after giving birth was never my goal. My weight has been constant for the last 15 years, which can mainly be attributed to genes and only owning one car I walk a half a mile per day, and my metabolism is high.But I was grateful to have lost over twenty pounds within weeks of giving birth to child number four for my personal health, especially since it resulted from natural lifestyle changes. Here are the three things that I attribute to my postpartum weight loss. Some of them make immediate sense, but some of them will surprise you.1. I (accidentally) changed my eating habits.I loved being pregnant because I ate things that I would bedrngnis normally eat. My pregnancy appetite was completely different, and I tasted food rather than just eating it. Post-pregnancy, I eat to live, meaning I eat because I need certain nutrients and dietary supplements to ensure my daughter receives the best breast mi lk.I am also more deliberate about what I eat, although not completely on my own volition my husband is vegan. I know, everyone does not have a vegan husband, and trust me, it definitely is inconvenient when it comes to sitting down for a family meal that everyone can eat. However, because of his diet, we have lots of fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator. Even my daughters understand the different between healthy foods and unhealthy foods. It has definitely shifted the way my family chooses to eat meals. He cooks more than I do, which is also helpful as I balance a busy writing schedule and multiple children.Changing my eating habits has been by far the largest contributing factor to losing weight postpartum.Eraina Ferguson. I also have a school-aged special needs daughter and a preschooler, so I have a scheduled routine outside of my new baby. Between the both of them and an active 2 year old, I am constantly moving around (literally). Im at the park at least once a week, cleaning up around the house, and chasing them around. Thats more cardio than the average joe.3. I breastfeed.According to doctors, women burn 300 calories every time they breastfeed. My two hour breastfeeding session every day has made a huge difference in how my body burns calories. And thats a good thing, because what I did not include on the list is a rigorous workout routine. I pumped enough milk to go to a personal training session and I never went back the truth is, I dont have time. We make concessions where we must.Balancing motherhood, writing, and my physical health has not been easy, but I am grateful that paying more attention to what I eat has paid off. No two women are the same, and no one should feel pressured to change their postpartum body, but personal health is so important. Prioritize yourself and build healthy, sustainable ha bits. Youve tweaked your resume, networked your heart out, and sent your strategically crafted cover lettersto the right people.And nowyou have the vorstellungsgesprchGulp. For fruchtwein people, interviewing is nerve-wracking. We so badly want to say and do the right things to secure the results we want. Its crucial we appear confident, professional, present, and able to articulate our experiences and visions.However, becoming consumedby fears of what others may think of us is not helpful or fun. So, during the interview process, whose opinion matters most? Is it your potential bosss? Your prospective coworkers? The HR persons?The truth is, its yours.Yes, your opinions about yourself, your skills, your problem-solving abilities, your work, and your life e xperiences are of immense importance. These beliefs impact your presence, body language, and tone. Whether you are simply walking into the lobby or sitting in a conference room chatting about your previous jobs, your physicality and mindset are key to presenting the most dynamic and confident version of yourself.How do you become your own biggest groupie? Here are some strategies for your body, mind, and heart.Body Language Go BigWhen something important is at stake, we tend to respond by either expanding or contracting. We can rise to the challenge physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, or we can shrink back in all of those ways.Lets play with contracting and expanding physically. Wherever you are right now, make yourself physically smaller. Take up less space. Its harder to breathe, right? Next, become aware of the thoughts that arise when you make this choice to be small. Does your confidence increase or decrease?Now, take up more space. Keep your body and arms open . Notice how much easier it is to breathe? Become aware of your thoughts and feelings. Ill bet you are feeling more positive and confident.Taking up more space not only builds inner confidence, but it also results in more confident body language. The words you say certainly matter and please invest time in practicing what you would like to share during the interview but make no mistake. Your body language also communicates volumes.Just as you choose an outfit that makes sense for the job you are interviewing for, you must also choose a physicality that serves you. This way, when you share a story about how you solved a marketing dilemma, led a team to victory, or rescued a project from disaster, your physicality will beconsistent with your message. How is your breathing?No matter which statement you focus on, your resume, skills, and experience wont change but your framework and attitude will.Facing the UnknownWhen you interview for a new role in a different work environment or enter a new industry, you come face to face with the unknown. This may not be an appealing idea, but its certainly nothing you havent encountered before. I promise that if you are reading this article, you have faced the unknown before and found your way through it.Have you abfallen in love and/or gotten married? Broken up or gotten divorced? Moved to a new neighborhood or school? Graduated? Had a child? Faced challenges regarding an aging parentin ill health? Then yes, you have faced and successfully navigated through the unknown. And you are still standing. You figured it out. You Googled. You asked trusted friends, family, and experts for their insights. You thought it through. You triednew things.To navigate the unknown, you needed to be flexible and adaptable. You needed toprioritize and reprioritize. Theres no reason you cant bring those same skills to new challenges. So, heres what you can say to any fearful questions and thoughts fueled by your doubts Ill figure it out. How does it feel in your body to focus on all you hope to get?Those are all wonderful things to strive for, but lets experiment with a subtle shift. Instead of focusing on what you hope to get, try thinking about what yo u want to share while in the interview your knowledge, your wisdom, your insights, your skills, your passion, your heart, your enthusiasm, your desire to collaborate and make an impact, etc.If this change in focus helps you to feel more empowered, more expansive, and like a potential collaborator looking for the right fit, great Make your own list of what you would like to share and look for ways to weave it into your interview answers and questions.Here are some other positive thoughts to contemplate. landsee which ones resonate with you, make your body happy, and increase your confidenceI have faced the unknown many times.I have had many experiences, and I have a lot to offer.I am here to see if this opportunity or this environment is a good fit for me.I am here to give and share my skills, passion, and knowledge.I am excited to be curious.I am excited to be present.The next time you are preparing for an interview, be your own biggest fan. Choose body language that is open and exp ansive. Commit to a mindset that brings excitement and curiosity to the interview adventure, rather than fear and dread.
